Market News

We are celebrating ten years of our market this Saturday. Back in 2006, the market started out upstairs in the Asian Cultural Centre on Manzil Way, with just 6 stalls and a café. We are here now because of the incredible skill and graft of our producers, the commitment of our customers, and the vision and hard work of our volunteers. Our market stands for food that treats the planet well and a sense of community where we treat each other well. This Saturday's market is a celebration of all of this. Please come and join us - and spread the word to friends and family! (we have a Facebook event).

To open this special market at 10am there will be a ribbon cutting by 10 people representing our traders, volunteers and customers. There will be live music from Willowbrook Farm's own 'Adam Latif Band', free tea and birthday cake, facepainting and a clown with balloons! There will even be free 30 minute Qigong taster sessions on the grass at the rear of the school (at 10.15, 11.15 and 11.55am).

At 11am the East Oxford Primary schoolchildren who created the designs selected for our special edition birthday mugs will be presented with their certificates and prizes. We are very pleased to be welcoming several stalls from the Primary School this week as part of our celebrations. The Outdoor Learning team will have cards, bookmarks, notebooks, seeds, plants and produce made from their windfall apples. Another will feature the Headteacher, Russell Kaye's, account of the school's interesting history: 'An East Oxford Education' and we will also have the children's own shop making a special appearance on a Saturday!

Stalls-wise there are many old favouites and some newer arrivals this week. Special mention to Coopers Pork who are back after a summer away with a selection of pork, bacon, sausages, ham and hopefully some of Clive's sausage rolls too. North Aston Dairy have fresh organic beef as well as their usual dairy range. LAM Brewing is now installed in new premises in Kennington and will be celebrating the market's anniversary with tastings of their NYK, Indian Summer and Rye Not.

We hope you enjoy this special market - here's to the next ten years!
