Since 1999 Signal Books has been publishing cultural histories of cities around the world and the Landscapes of the Imagination series which covers places as varied as The Sahara and The Cotswolds. We have approximately 250 books in print, which include history, current affairs, environmental studies and even a novel, entitled Divinity Road.

Based locally in Minster Road, Signal has also been interested in publishing books about Oxford. These range from reprints of classics by Edward Thomas and Chiang Yee to illustrated poetry, That Sweet City, and the lively Cowley Road Cookbook. Our cultural history of Oxford has been reprinted six times since its first publication. Much of our day to day work takes place in Oxford and we have many local authors.

We are particularly pleased to be publishing Oxford Z to A in spring 2020 written by Rose Hill humourist, Richard O. Smith and illustrated by Summertown's Korky Paul - of Winnie the Witch fame. It is an amusing and highly visual take on the city's colourful and eccentric history, aimed at readers of all ages.
